Could Ralph Hasenhuttl become the Man Utd manager?
Manchester United currently have German Ralf Rangnick at the helm at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this season, and rather than immediately replace him with a permanent manager, they opted to bring in Rangnick.
The former RB Leipzig head coach and executive will act in a caretaker role until the end of the current season, after which he will move upstairs into an advisory role overseeing recruitment and the academy.
For a permanent manager, Man Utd have been strongly linked with Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers.
One name that is doing the rounds more recently is Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The German has been doing a fine job at St. Mary's and was recently tipped for the Man Utd job by both Glenn Hoddle and Paul Scholes, who believe he would work well with Rangnick due to their mentor-apprentice relationship.
Hoddle said on BT Sport:
"Would that not be a good fit? For me, if they’ve worked so closely together, if he’s going to be the sporting director eventually - that works.
"He’s doing an excellent job. If he wanted it, it would make sense."
Scholes added:
"The type of football has worked for them. His teams have been good to watch, I think it comes across really well.
"The more I think about it, I don’t think it would be a bad thing. The way he goes about his business, he looks good."
Hasenhuttl responds to Man Utd rumours
However, Hasenhuttl has naturally distanced himself from the Man Utd job as he is currently in the middle of a season with Southampton.
“This is not in my mind, and also not the things that are interesting me,” he said ahead of Southampton's game against Everton this weekend.
“I don’t want to speak about my future every week, last week we spoke about something different, and this week we shall speak about our game, what we have now against Everton.
“This is more interesting for me, and my whole energy and my whole focus is on this game, and everything else, I’ll leave it to you.”
