Manchester United have all but resigned themselves to losing Paul Pogba at the end of the season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the France international has given no indication of changing his mind and instead accepting a contract extension to his current deal.

As such, it now seems certain that Pogba will leave the Premier League giants in the summer, with a number of clubs now vying to convince the midfielder to move to their side.

However, while Pogba will undoubtedly be enticed by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, there’s no doubt that Real Madrid now have to make sure they beat all others to the Frenchman’s signature in a few months time.

Why Madrid need Pogba

There’s little doubt that Madrid have had eyes for one player and one player only for the better part of a year now: Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.

However, following the French striker’s performance and goal against Madrid in the Last 16 this week, there are growing concerns over Mbappe’s interest in a move to Spain. Especially if PSG can make him a very enticing offer to stay.

Despite that, Madrid need to turn their attention away from signing another striker and instead bring in a midfielder that can help them step back up in European football.

At this moment in time, Madrid already have a superb striker in Karim Benzema, who has already bagged 24 goals and nine assists in just 29 games. And there’s little doubt that he’ll be just as lethal next season.

Instead, Madrid need to look at their midfield trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro who have an average age of 32 and certainly looked their age against PSG in the Champions League.

The Spanish club certainly took a smart step in signing Eduardo Camavinga and also have the talented Federico Valverde in reserve too, but signing Pogba would offer the Spanish giants a super star midfielder that they could properly rebuild their squad around.
