The Chelsea players whose transfer values will now plummet

Chelsea are currently in crisis after news emerged that owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government due to his links to Russia and Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich had hoped to sell the club before such sanctions were imposed, but any sale has now been put on hold, and that will drastically impact the Blues both on and off the pitch.

At the moment, Chelsea are not allowed to renew contracts, buy or sell players, sell matchday tickets, or even sell club merchandise.

Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta will all leave on free transfers at the end of the current campaign.

Chelsea need to look towards 2023, too, as they have a number of players whose value will drop drastically as they cannot be sold this summer and so will be available for free in just over a year's time.

Marcus Bettinelli: Current value - €2m

Marcus Bettinelli is third in the goalkeeping hierarchy at the club and has a low value so no big losses.

Thiago Silva: Current value - €12m

Chelsea are lucky that they very recently extended the contract of influential defender Thiago Silva or else he would have been part of the defensive exodus alongside Christensen, Rudiger and Azpilicueta.

It is likely he'll play a massive part next season, but it seems highly unlikely he would have stayed beyond 2023 anyway.

N'Golo Kante: Current value - €16m

N'Golo Kante remains one of the most influential midfielders in the world, but he still strangely always seems to be linked with a move away from Chelsea.

If the club wanted to receive a significant transfer fee, that move away would have needed to happen this summer, and it can't anymore.

The Blues can't even renew his contract, currently, so his value is going to plummet as the months go on.

Jorginho: Current value - €30m

Like Kante, Jorginho has been linked with a Chelsea departure but that is more to do with comments made himself than any strong suitors, though Juventus would love to have him.

The Italy international has spoken of his dislike for English weather in the past nd expressed a desire to one day return to Serie A, having previously played for Napoli.

He probably won't get that wish this summer unless he is released.

Marcos Alonso: Current value - €12m

Another squad player that looked destined for the exit this summer is wing-back Marcos Alonso, who remains a useful back-up for Tuchel but remains a notable step down from Ben Chilwell on the flank.

Chelsea have been linked with younger full-backs lately and would have presumably moved Alonso on to bring in an understudy to the England international, if they were allowed to buy or sell players.

Ross Barkley: Current value - €15m

There’s no doubt that as soon as the summer transfer window opened, one of the first players out the door at Chelsea would have undoubtedly been Ross Barkley.

Although the former England international has had some bright sparks at the club in recent seasons, he’s struggled to live up to the hype since moving from Everton in 2018 and was in desperate need of a fresh start this year. Unfortunately for Barkley, that now looks unlikely.
