Tammy Abraham: Could Chelsea re-sign Roma ace this summer?
Roma striker Tammy Abraham continues to be linked with a potential move back to Chelsea from the Serie A club.
Abraham was shipped out last summer in order to make way for record signing Romelu Lukaku, but while the Englishman has thrived in Serie A, the Belgian has not reciprocated in England.
Roma picked up 1-0 victory over Atalanta in a big Serie A match, with Abraham scoring the only goal of the game just after the 30-minute mark.
The 24-year-old has now played 27 matches in Italy’s top flight this season and has scored 13 goals and created three more. In all competitions he is already up to 20 for the campaign – a personal best.
With a clause in his Roma deal that allows Chelsea to buy him back for €80 million (£64m), naturally there is a suggestion that he should return to Stamford Bridge.
If it happens, it is unlikely to be an immediate transfer.
Abraham set for Roma stay
One of the major reasons for this is that the clause in Abraham’s deal that allows Chelsea to re-sign him does not come into force until 2023.
Beyond, that, though, the player does not seem in a rush to move back to Stamford Bridge.
“I’m loving AS Roma - I give my best for this club, they trusted me in difficult moment of my career and lifted me up. I enjoy my time here, I feel like home,” he explained after netting the weekend’s winner.
Indeed, Abraham never enjoyed the type of trust at Chelsea that he has under Jose Mourinho at Roma. Under Thomas Tuchel, in particular, he was a peripheral player and it would take a dramatic change of heart from the German to have him back in the squad.
Abraham’s form for Roma, though, is such that those at Chelsea must be having second thoughts.
