Pogba to leave Man Utd? The strongest hint yet the France star will go
Paul Pogba has admitted that he is not satisfied with what he has produced over the last five years at Manchester United and says that he is eager to make up for lost time in his career.
Pogba re-joined the Premier League side in 2016 after a four-year stint with Juventus in Serie A, where he became a superstar.
Although the midfielder has typically shone while playing for France, that level has not been apparent with the Red Devils on a consistent basis.
Pogba wants glory
Pogba’s contract with Man Utd is up in the summer, and given his extravagant wage demands in comparison with the peripheral role he has played in the club’s fortunes this season, it looks unlikely to be renewed.
There have been links with Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks – and all three will have been interested to pick up on a pointed comment that Pogba made in an interview with Le Figaro, published on Wednesday.
“I want to make up for these years when I've not won trophies, I have to be honest, because I can't be satisfied with the last five seasons. Whether it's at Man Utd or another club, I want to win trophies,” he said.
All three of the clubs linked with Pogba have been serial title winners in recent years, while there is little evidence of Man Utd getting any closer to silverware. Despite an impressive summer transfer campaign that saw them capture Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, the Red Devils may not even qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Meanwhile, there has long been an undercurrent of tension between Pogba and Man Utd. This came to a head in the last weeks of 2020, when agent Mino Raiola suggested that the player’s departure was inevitable.
Although the damage was repaired, Man Utd appear to have been braced for Pogba’s departure since and are being linked with a string of midfielders this summer, including Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips and West Ham’s Declan Rice.
