Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United could be coming to an end in the summer, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick indicating that he is free to leave if he wants.

Speculation has been rife over Rashford’s future at the club due to a loss of form that has seen his stature plummet.

Rangnick’s arrival has not aided matters, with the German often taking a matter-of-fact approach to the academy graduate’s indifferent level.

That continued on Friday, when he spoke to the press ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Tottenham in the Premier League.

Indeed, Rangnick even invited Rashford to take the exit door.

“The window is closed right now. Even in case he and his agents or his family think about going to another club, well he can do that but in the summer,” he said.

Rashford has not scored since the end of January, with his last start coming a month ago against Southampton in a home draw.

"I like Marcus as a player," said Rangnick. "I've had a few in the past at former clubs where they had problems at one stage but it's our job to help him, to get the best Marcus Rashford that he can be."

Can Rashford get back to his best at Man Utd?

Rashford exploded onto the scene as a youngster but has struggled to confirm that status in recent times.

He is not being helped by being at a Manchester United that is dysfunctional off the field and, therefore, struggling on it. The drama of events away from the park appears to have lessened his influence on it.

Now 24, Rashford should be beyond the stage of his career when he develops rapidly, though to see him stagnate and decline in this manner is, nonetheless, alarming.

Manchester United need a fresh start in the summer, and Rashford is presently one of those players who is most expendable when the clear out starts. He has a lot to do to prove Rangnick wrong.
