'The worst Premier League transfer ever' - Fans react to Maguire own goal against Spurs
Manchester United fans were once again tearing their hair out on Saturday evening thanks to another poor performance from Harry Maguire.
With his team in front and looking relatively comfortable thanks to two fantastic goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, the England international made headlines in all the wrong ways when he tried to intercept a drilled cross and somehow managed to tap the ball into the back of his own net.
After a second half in which Antonio Conte’s side had offered very little in attack, Maguire’s clumsy own goal turned the game on its head and once again proved that the central defender may now be more of a hindrance than an asset to the club.
Unfortunately for Man Utd fans, Saturday’s clanger wasn’t the first time Maguire has let his side down in recent months and as such Man Utd and rival fans flocked to social media to have their say on another bizarre performance from a defender that has truly fallen from grace.
Maguire ffs. Just appalling. Would've been offside, too. Matic had covered for him until that. He simply cannot keep starting. Although if you strip him of the captaincy he's as good as gone. Which would be ideal tbh. #MUFC

Twitter reacts to Maguire own goal
Sports writer Jerrad Peters perhaps put it best when he described Maguire’s own goal as “just appalling” and pointed out how it was the defender that actually played his Tottenham counterpart onside prior to the own goal, before calling for Maguire to be stripped of his captaincy.
There’s just nothing to like about Maguire. Boring personality, not good at football, doesn’t accept blame for anything

Man UTd fan account @utdcynical perhaps summed up the feelings of many fans when he said there was “just nothing to like about Maguire” due to his “boring” personality and terrible performances for the club.
However it was perhaps Patrick Timmons who put it perfectly when he suggested that the England defender - who cost Man Utd no less than £78 million in 2019 - could actually be the worst Premier League transfer ever.
Romero just laughed at Maguire on the ground we’re such a banter club pic.twitter.com/FoTGRDsuEx

Spursiness vs Harry Maguire's defending is the most powerful clash in football.

Harry Maguire might just be the worst pound for pound signing in Premier League history.
