From Hiddink to Ten Hag: How have Dutch managers done in the Premier League?
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag will soon be named as the new manager of Manchester United.
The Red Devils currently have veteran German coach Ralf Rangnick in charge, but at the end of the current campaign he will undertake an advisory role with the club, focusing on youth development and recruitment.
Man Utd have been interviewing a number of candidates over the last couple of months, and it seems that Ten Hag impressed the most as it now seems a foregone conclusion that he will take the reins at Old Trafford next season.
Should he be appointed, Ten Hag will become the ninth Dutchman to have managed in the Premier League.
The managerial tenure from a Dutchman that has yielded the most success in the Premier League is Guus Hiddink's first spell at Chelsea.
He has been caretaker boss of the Blues twice, once in 2009 and then again in the 2015/16 season. In that first spell, he took charge of 22 matches and won 16 of those for a win ratio of 72.73%.
His second spell was no so successful as he had a win ratio of just 37.04%.
For a permanent manager, it may be a surprise to hear that Louis van Gaal actually has the best win ratio of any Dutchman in the Premier League. Van Gaal was famously sacked after winning the FA Cup, and at the conclusion of his time at Old Trafford, he had a win ratio of 52.43%.
In third is Ruud Gullit, who won 49.4% of his games while manager of Chelsea between 1996 and 1998.
What is not a surprise is who has the worst ratio, as Frank de Boer famously had one of the worst tenures in Premier League history at Crystal Palace. He managed the Eagles for just 450 minutes, and had a win ratio of 20%.
Dick Advocaat at Sunderland wasn't much better, with a win ratio of 21.5%, albeit from a lot more matches.
No Dutchman has ever won the Premier League as a manager.
