Antonio Rudiger is reportedly set to sign for Real Madrid once his Chelsea contract expires this summer, with a four-year deal expected to be signed by the Germany international.

Rudiger joined Chelsea from Roma in 2017, but the 28-year-old's contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer and he won't renew his deal due to the ongoing situation with Chelsea's ownership.

The defender doesn't want to wait until a new owner comes in as a date hasn't been set, and Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Rudiger will leave Chelsea this summer.

Plenty of European teams have expressed interest in Rudiger in the past few months, with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus among the teams keen on signing him, but it appears that Real Madrid have won the race.

It has been reported by Spanish outlet Marca and transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano that Rudiger has reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid over a four-year deal that will run until 2026.

The deal is expected to be completed soon, although it may not be officially announced until the end of the 2021/22 season.

With Real Madrid set to land Rudiger, it means that Manchester United have missed out.

Erik ten Hag will take over as head coach this summer and has plans for a transfer rebuild at the club. Current interim boss Ralf Rangnick has told the press that as many as 10 players could arrive at Old Trafford this upcoming summer transfer window, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic among those to leave the club.

However, the club have been dealt a huge blow by news of Rudiger reportedly turning them down before agreeing a deal with Real Madrid.

How much money did Man Utd offer Rudiger?

It has been reported by Sport that Rudiger is close to agreeing his move to Real Madrid and that Man Utd made him an offer of €10 million per year net salary.

Rudiger is understood to have turned this down as he didn't want to leave Chelsea and stay in the Premier League.

It is unclear how much Real Madrid have offered Rudiger, but he has turned down Man Utd in favour of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Man Utd have spent roughly €215m (£180m) on central defenders in the past six years, but have missed out on the chance to sign Rudiger for free with news that Real Madrid is the club he has chosen.

Chelsea are understood to have offered €270,000 per week (£230,000) to Rudiger in order to convince him to stay at Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Mail, but still aren't able to give him a new contract which has reportedly played a major role in Rudiger's decision to leave the club.
