The 52-year-old joined Ajax in December 2017 when the club were going through a turbulent period having been sluggish in the league and missed out on European football altogether that season. But he has turned the tide at the Johan Cruyff Arena and made them one of Europe’s most attractive sides.
In two full seasons, Ten Hag managed to win the league and cup double twice, and he was set for another league title in the 2019-20 season before it was halted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
What is Erik ten Hag's managerial record like?
This season, Ajax are set to add another league title as they are four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie with five games left. They lost the KNVB Cup final against PSV last week, though.
On the European scene, Ajax have performed exceptionally under Ten Hag, and the pinnacle of his career was reaching the Champions League semi-final in 2019, in a season where they beat Real Madrid and Juventus before falling to Tottenham in the last four.
Since then, Ten Hag’s Ajax reached a Europa League quarter-final as well as the Round of 16 of the Champions League this season, when they lost to Benfica.
Since joining, Ten Hag has taken charge of 210 Ajax matches, winning 155 of them and losing just 29 – the manager’s win percentage stands at a fine 73.8%.
Most impressively, their goalscoring record is superb, as Ajax have scored 576 goals in that period – an average of 2.74-per-match and they’ve conceded just 178.

That is, however, just his Ajax career.
Prior to that, he had a great spell at Utrecht, when he took the club to challenge Dutch football’s big three of Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV.
Before that, he spent time at Bayern Munich II, working alongside Pep Guardiola and that came as a result of his previous job at Go Ahead Eagles, when he took the club from the second division to the top flight in the Netherlands.
Over the course of his career, Ten Hag has managed 432 matches, winning 271 – a win percentage of 62.74%, and his teams have scored 1,006 goals.
