Ralf Rangnick set to leave Man Utd and become Austria head coach

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick could sensationally leave the club at the end of the season to take up the vacant role as the Austrian national team manager. Reports have emerged that he plans to reject the consultancy role he was promised by Man Utd in order to take charge of Austria.
Rangnick was appointed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's replacement in late 2021, in the knowledge he would be replaced by a full-time option in the summer.

That full-time option has now been selected, with Ajax's Erik ten Hag taking charge ahead of next season. However, it has now been reported that Rangnick won't be there to oversee the summer rebuild he has been quoted saying in recent days.
The German was expected to take up a consultancy role once this season ends, but this news has thrown that into serious question.
Will Rangnick leave Man Utd?
Kurier have reported that Austrian FA president Gerhard Milletich and sports director Peter Schöttel have met to discuss the options for the replacement options for Franco Foda and Rangnick is the man they've settled on.
And, Rangnick has reportedly agreed to the job. Kurier expect the news to be officially announced on Friday 29 April, the day after Rangnick's Man Utd face Chelsea in the Premier League.
Sky Sports in Germany have confirmed the news, and believe Rangnick is "close" to becoming Austria's manager, with just the final details to be confirmed.
It comes as a huge shock after Rangnick said last week: "Of course, I would want to be part of the process that has to happen,' said Rangnick. 'But right now, I don't know how this is really being appreciated.
"This is the question and it's also important how does Erik ten Hag see that. Does he like to speak with someone like myself? Does he want to work together?
"How much does Erik ten Hag and the board want my opinion and my experience? That's what we haven't spoken about.
"I am interested and very much feeling this club after those five-and-a-half months. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world."
Rangnick has previously worked in Austria, during his time at RB Salzburg.
