Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Gunners have outbid West Ham to secure the full-back's services this summer, which is supported by information from Football.London that states that Hickey is Mikel Arteta's top transfer target.

There is no indication of what the transfer fee may be for Hickey, but previous reports suggested that a deal could be done for something in the region of €25 million, which could include bonus payments.

The 19-year-old has been on the radar of many leading European clubs for several months. AC Milan and Bayern Munich are among the teams who have been monitoring the Scotland defender, who has enjoyed an incredible rise in prominence over the last season. Brentford were also thought to be close to a deal for a period.

Indeed, he has been widely regarded as one of the star performers in Serie A this season, having scored five goals and created one more for a Bologna side that will comfortably finish in the middle of the table.

It has been a campaign in which Hickey has displayed admirable versatility, having featured on both sides of the field. Indeed, he has played more minutes than any other teenager in Europe’s Big 5 leagues this season, which is a sure sign of the potential he has.

Everything Arsenal fans need to know about Aaron Hickey

FootballTransfers chief editor Robin Bairner was asked by Arsenal podcast The Arsenal Way to give his insight on the player and spent more than 15 minutes discussing the ins and outs of a talent he has been following since he broke into the Hearts side in 2018/19 and immediately proved his star potential.

Hickey is a player, then, who can develop into a star figure at the Emirates Stadium as his career develops, and the transfer fee of €25m could prove a bargain given the years of service that Arsenal could get out of one of the game’s leading prospects.
