The Spanish defender has impressed once again this season, as he helped Villarreal reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, and interest in him has continued.

Last year, Manchester United were keen to bring him to the club, with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a fan of the player.

That interest has carried forward to this year, as new boss Erik ten Hag is keen to refresh his squad with several new signings and push the club towards Champions League qualification once again.

What has Torres said about his future?

Torres, however, has spoken about his future to Spanish outlet AS, and has said he is calm about the summer transfer window.

Torres said: "I have the peace of mind of being where they want me, where I have a valid contract and a renewal offer. The future will tell what happens but I am very calm, I do not look further and it is time to disconnect. It has been two years very good at Villarreal.

"We have competed with the best at European level which is what every player wants. If in addition you do it for your town's team, it's bigger.

"It's something [my future] I've always talked about with the president, that different situations could arise. This club loves me and I'm very grateful.

“I know I can stay here for many more years because the affection is mutual, so we'll see what we decide."

The 25-year-old has played with Villarreal since he was a child, and has had two fine campaigns in defence, having grown in quality over the last few years.

Torres also made his debut for the Spanish national team in 2019, and has earned 17 caps so far, even playing at Euro 2020 last summer as his side reached the semi-final.

Other than Manchester United, there is interest in Torres from other clubs as well including Barcelona and Chelsea, with the Villarreal player a desired option at the back for many.
