Rudiger has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Chelsea and he was officially presented as a Blancos player on Monday.

The Germany international will earn an annual wage of between €9-10m after tax until 2026 and will also receive a hefty signing-on fee.

But as is the custom in Spanish football, he will also have a massive minimum fee release clause in his contract of €400m.

Rudiger’s future at Chelsea had been in doubt for a long time as his contract expires at the end of this month.

The 29-year-old had rejected a number of lucrative contract offers to renew his deal.

However, negotiations had to stop following the sanctions against Roman Abramovich which has seen Chelsea search for a new owner.

Rudiger had thus been unwilling to wait any longer for a new owner to arrive and began his search for a new club.

There was strong interest from the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG but in the end he decided to join Real Madrid.

Rudiger signed for Chelsea in 2017 and, after an average first three seasons at the club, he was outstanding after the arrival of Tuchel in January 2020.

He played a key role in Chelsea winning the Champions League last year and became one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
