Manchester United owner Avram Glazer has indicated that transfer funds will be available for incoming manager Erik ten Hag to strengthen the squad.

The Red Devils endured their worst season of the Premier League era in 2021/22, winning fewer points and scoring fewer goals than ever before in the competition, and finishing with a zero goal difference for the first time.

It is expected that there will be dramatic changes made to the squad over the course of the summer, with the appointment of Ajax boss Ten Hag thought to be the first step to transforming the mindset of the club.

While there is debate as to just how much the Dutchman might have to invest in the squad, Glazer has confirmed that money will be made available.

Asked if there is money to strengthen the squad, he told Sky Sports News: “We’ve always spent the money that’s there to buy new players.”

Glazer backs Ten Hag for Man Utd success

Meanwhile, he backed Ten Hag to be a success when asked if he is the right man for the post.

“That’s why we hired him, he’ll do a great job,” he said.

“It is a disappointing season; it’s been a disappointing season for everyone and we’re going to work hard to make sure next season is better.”

Speculation has been rife as to where Ten Hag will seek to strengthen Man Utd, though it seems probable that he will foremost try to bolster the midfield, where he could make two signings, while the right-back area is also set to be a priority for him.

The Red Devils spent significantly last year to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in a trio of high-profile moves that had been expected to make them title contenders, making their sixth-placed finish all the more disappointing.
