Barcelona's transfer promise that could stop Salah signing Liverpool contract
Barcelona are hoping to add Mohamed Salah to their ranks next summer on a free transfer deal.
Salah is down to the final year of his Liverpool contract, with an agreement on an extension yet to be reached.
The Reds could look to sell the forward in the next window, though they are likely to keep him at Anfield for the 2022-23 season.
The club will try to persuade Salah to sign a new deal over the next 12 months, but interest from Barcelona could make that difficult.
La Blaugrana are in financial trouble, but a £235 million naming rights deal with Spotify has alleviated some of the pressure.
The La Liga club are already in talks with Robert Lewandowski and Ruben Neves, as head coach Xavi looks to rebuild the squad.
And, Salah has been promised to move to Camp Nou next summer, according to The Mirror.
Salah to Barcelona?
For now, Salah insists he is committed to Liverpool for the next season, not wanting to comment on his long-term future.
''I don't want to talk about the contract now, I'm staying next season for sure, that's clear,'' he said ahead of the Champions League final defeat.
But, a potential move to Barcelona will be on his mind, especially when entering the final year of his contract at Anfield.
That's not to say that other clubs won't be interested in signing the Egyptian, should he become available on a free transfer.
Mo Salah situation has not changed, as of now. He doesn’t want to leave Liverpool this summer - but new contract talks are still complicated, up to the club for the next months. 🔴 #LFC

However, it seems as though Barcelona are the most likely to pry the 29-year-old away from The Reds.
And, the move would make an awful lot of sense. Unlike in the case of Philippe Coutinho, Salah has already won everything there is to win at Liverpool.
Add to that, Coutinho's role at Barca was unclear, whereas Salah would certainly occupy the right wing position.
He would also be the most profile name to play for the club since Lionel Messi left for Paris Saint-Germain.
That would come with huge expectation, but Salah could thrive as one of the biggest names in world football at one of the biggest clubs.
