How Chelsea tried to hijack Tottenham's Richarlison deal

Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Everton forward Richarlison for £60 million (€70m) as Antonio Conte prepares his side for life back in the Champions League.
Spurs snatched fourth place from North London rivals Arsenal in the final few stages of the Premier League season to reinstate their place in Europe's elite club competition after two years away.

Conte has reacted by signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster already this summer.
The Lilywhites have also been linked with moves for Alessandro Bastoni, Pau Torres, Djed Spence and Anthony Gordon as they look to bolster their squad in preparation for competing on four fronts next season.
A back-up for Harry Kane has been on the club's wish-list for several years and it looks as though they've finally landed their man. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Everton that will see the Toffees' star forward join for a fee of roughly £60m (€70m).
The Brazil international scored 10 Premier League goals last year and his late-season form guided Everton to survival under new manager Frank Lampard.
Richarlison to Tottenham
Richarlison now looks set to move on to pastures new and become Spurs' fourth signing of this summer transfer window after his form for Everton caught the eyes of those in charge at Tottenham.
Personal terms have also been agreed with Richarlison, with a medical and the player's signature all that's left to do in order to officially complete the deal.
While Tottenham will confirm the signing of Richarlison this summer, their London rivals Chelsea attempted to hijack the move. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Thomas Tuchel's side made a last-ditch effort to sign Richarlison before a final agreement between Tottenham and Everton took place. Their attempt, however, was not successful.
The Blues are set to sign Raphinha and Raheem Sterling this summer, but were also linked with Richarlison as they look to replace Romelu Lukaku, who has departed on a one-year loan move back to Inter Milan just 12 months after his club-record breaking transfer.
