Liverpool could be set to lose Mohamed Salah on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2023.

Jurgen Klopp's side have been locked in negotiations with the player's representatives for several months now, but an agreement is yet to have been reached.

While the German head coach has signed an extended contract at Anfield, two key players in Sadio Mane and Salah could leave the club in the not-too-distant future.

Mane has garnered plenty of attention from Bayern Munich as they prepare for Robert Lewandowski's probable exit from the club. The Senegal international has been linked with the Bavarian giants and is yet to engage in serious contract renewal talks himself.

Salah to Barcelona?

While Mane could depart for a transfer fee to Bayern this summer, Liverpool could lose Salah for free next summer instead. That's because Barcelona have promised him a move to Camp Nou in 2023, according to The Mirror.

The Catalan club have reportedly given the Egyptian a verbal offer to join them next year on a free transfer and The Mirror believe that has played a part in the stalled talks with Liverpool over a new deal. Salah has also reportedly told close friends that Barca's offer has made him rethink his decision after previously being willing to commit to a longer contract at Anfield.

Salah once again enjoyed a successful year in front of goal in the 2021/22 season, netting 31 goals and assisting a further 16 as Liverpool won two domestic cups and came close to winning both the Premier League and the Champions League as well.

However, his future at the club has been a talking point for a little while, especially following the club's addition of Luis Diaz from Porto in January 2022.

The winger has started life at Anfield in fine fashion and his form, along with Mane's in a new role through the middle, slightly took the shine off Salah's impact on the side. But, he remains a key player in Klopp's system and is still one of the world's very best, so Liverpool are desperate to keep him around.

Salah himself said ahead of the Champions League final: "I'm staying next season for sure, that's clear," but he hasn't addressed a potential exit in 2023.
