Inter, Chelsea, Spurs, PSG? What is Bremer’s transfer situation?
Torino central defender Gleison Bremer emerged in 2021-22 as one of Europe’s most exciting defenders.
The 25-year-old was named Serie A Defender of the Season after a brilliant personal campaign for Torino.
This has led to strong interest from a number of Italy and Europe’s biggest clubs.
So who wants to sign him and what is his current transfer situation?
The Nerazzurri have long since agreed personal terms with Bremer, whose preference is to move to San Siro.
Bremer signed a new contract earlier this year with Torino in which the club promised to sell him this summer well below his market value.
It is understood that Torino will accept a transfer fee in the region of just €30 million. This is a fee Inter are happy to pay.
The reason Bremer’s transfer to Inter has not been completed yet is because they need to sell before they can buy.
Inter need to end the market with a €50m profit from transfers, so they are negotiating with PSG to sell Milan Skriniar for a fee in excess of €70m.
Once they have made a big-money sale, they will immediately use that cash to sign Bremer.
As it stands Bremer is happy to wait for Inter to find the money for him.
However, if Inter were to struggle for too long to raise the cash, that could open the door for other interested parties.
Tottenham have made strong enquiries for Bremer as manager Antonio Conte has requested a top centre-back this summer. Sporting director Fabio Paratici is a big fan of Bremer and is ready to shop again in the Italian market.
Chelsea also have Bremer on their summer shortlist, with the Blues needing to sign two top centre-backs to replace the outgoing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Chrtsiensen. Jules Kounde is the priority right now, though.
Milan and Juventus have followed Bremer for a while now. The Serie A champions could increase their interest in the Brazilian if they lose Sven Botman to Newcastle.
Milan have a deal on the player’s side with Botman but are struggling to agree a fee with Lille, who have accepted a much larger offer from Newcastle.
As for Juventus, they need a replacement for Giorgio Chiellini but they are currently focusing on completing transfers for Paul Pogba and Angel di Maria.
Finally, PSG have entered the race to sign Bremer. The Parisians are making a habit this summer of hijacking deals elsewhere.
First it was Kylian Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid, then Renato Sanches’ to Milan, and now there are reports that they are making a bid for Bremer.
Nevertheless, Inter remain in pole position and should complete this deal – but they need to get a move on now.
