Liverpool could have finished their summer transfer business already after failing to secure some of their prime targets.

The Reds completed a €100 million move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez and it is believed the imminent arrival of Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay will be their last signing of the window.

Having also bought Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho, Liverpool are reportedly unlikely to make any further signings this window despite being in the market for a midfielder.

With just three new faces and some key figures set to depart, the question becomes whether Liverpool have done enough to overcome Manchester City in the battle for next season's Premier League title.

Or are they playing it smart by putting themselves in a position where they can afford to wait on key targets and pursue the perfect fit instead of a hail-mary play?

Liverpool are running a marathon, not a sprint

Jurgen Klopp's side finished just one point behind City last season and the champions have since added forwards Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to their ranks.

Liverpool's big money signing of Nunez has indicated that the club aren't going to just stand by and watch rivals strengthen, although the Uruguayan would likely be an attempt to replace the output of the outgoing Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese international is set to depart for Bayern Munich this summer and, in turn, dismantling a portion of Liverpool's free-scoring front line.

Liverpool had hoped to strengthen their midfield this summer and had lined up Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni as their target but the Frenchman opted to join Real Madrid for €100m.

While other names such as Gavi from Barcelona were discussed, the club have decided to hold off on pursuing another midfielder as they do not feel there is another suitable option currently on the market.

Dortmund's Jude Bellingham is coveted by a host of top sides including Liverpool and it is believed the Reds prefer to save their resources for the England international when he is more attainable next summer.

With the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain entering the final year of their contracts, Liverpool are still remaining calm, knowing they have added a crucial player in Nunez.

The club understand the merit in getting business done early in order to observe the market as it adapts throughout the summer.

Furthermore, the €60m acquisition of Luis Diaz in January gave confidence to Liverpool that they can strengthen mid-season should the right player become available.

The long-term vision of the club is what has made them so successful under Klopp and they know the value of thinking big instead of panicking, meaning whatever happens, the club will eventually come out on top.
