Eriksen has become a much-wanted man on the transfer market after a brilliant six months at Brentford this year.

The 30-year-old agreed a six-month contract with Brentford in January after he returned to football following his cardiac arrest on the pitch during Euro 2020 last summer.

FootballTransfers can confirm that Newcastle are one of the teams who are looking at Eriksen, who will be a free agent at the end of the month.

Discussions have taken place between Eriksen’s entourage over the past week, and as recently as Monday.

Eriksen is also wanted by Manchester United and Brentford, who would love to extend his stay in London.

The attacking midfielder enjoyed a fantastic stint at Brentford, with five goal contributions in 11 games, helping the club to comfortably stay in the Premier League.

It has been a fairytale return for the ex-Inter and Tottenham star, who had to be revived on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s match with Iceland a year ago.

His club team at the time of this incident, Inter Milan, were forced to terminate his contract at the end of last year due to health rules in Italy.

Serie A clubs are not permitted to field players who are fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator. He thus was released in December and chose to resume his career with newly-promoted Brentford.

Other Newcastle transfer news

Elsewhere, FootballTransfers have been told that Newcastle are not actively trying to sign Man Utd goalkeeper Dean Henderson currently - multiple sources have resolutely shot down such suggestions.

Additionally, Benfica star Darwin Nunez has been looked at by Newcastle. But given the heavy interest elsewhere from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, we're told Newcastle don't believe they stand a chance of signing him.
