Raheem Sterling's move to Chelsea edges closer
Chelsea are ready to offer a second proposal to Manchester City for Raheem Sterling as a deal between the two clubs edges closer to completion.
Sterling, 27, joined Man City from Liverpool back in 2015, but with just one year left on his contract he looks set to be on the move within the Premier League again.
Chelsea have emerged as the front-runners in the race for Sterling and remain the only team seriously linked with a move for the England international.
With Romelu Lukaku re-joining Inter Milan on a season-long loan and Hakim Ziyech likely to also depart this summer with AC Milan heavily interested, Chelsea are keen to add another body to their forward line.
It's understood that Thomas Tuchel is a great admirer of Sterling and Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Chelsea head coach is pushing for a move to be completed.
According to Romano, an initial bid for Sterling has been rejected by Man City, but Chelsea are now ready to offer a new and improved proposal as they try and negotiate a transfer.
Furthermore, personal terms have reportedly already been discussed with Sterling, who appears willing to join the West London side.
Initial talks with Man City were led by Marina Granovskaia, but her departure from Stamford Bridge has left new owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly in charge of the newest bid.
Chelsea are reportedly well aware that Man City are open to selling Sterling this summer, with both Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez arriving from Borussia Dortmund and River Plate respectively.
Along with Sterling, Gabriel Jesus will also depart, with the Brazilian set to join Chelsea's London rivals Arsenal.
Furthermore, The Athletic's Man City reporter Sam Lee said on the 'Why Always Us' podcast that he believes Sterling's move to Chelsea is "done", suggesting that a deal will be agreed imminently.
Sterling at Chelsea
Sterling scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, which would've ranked first in the Chelsea squad, ahead of club-record signing Lukaku. He is not the only winger Chelsea are targeting, however, as Ousmane Dembele remains on their radar. The Frenchman will become a free agent on 30 June unless he signs a new deal at Barcelona.
It's expected that Sterling would fit into the rotating front three that Tuchel likes to adopt, with Mason Mount and Kai Havertz likely to be the two he plays alongside.
