De Ligt, Kounde and five transfers that could be completed this week
We are set for another busy week in the transfer market after seeing Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Raheem Sterling all complete moves in recent days.
Pre-season is underway and many top sides are ramping up their transfer business in a bid to confirm their squads for the new campaign.
With the new season for most European top divisions set to begin in the next month, here are some transfers that could be completed by the end of the week.
Matthijs De Ligt
From: Juventus
To: Bayern Munich
Fee: €80million
Bayern Munich are on course to wrap up one of the biggest moves of the summer as they edge closer to a deal for Matthijs De Ligt. The Juventus defender is set to sign for the German giants in a deal worth €80m after turning down interest from Chelsea. Personal terms are already believed to have been agreed and De Ligt should pen a five-year deal with Bayern imminently.
Gleison Bremer
From: Torino
To: Juventus
Fee: €40m
Juventus have identified Torino defender Gleison Bremer as the replacement for De Ligt and will hold talks with the Brazilian over a move this week. Inter were thought to be in pole position for Bremer but Juventus have moved to hijack the deal and are believed to have beaten their rivals to the punch. The 25-year-old will reportedly sign in a deal that could rise to €40m with add-ons.
Jules Kounde
From: Sevilla
To: Barcelona/Chelsea
Fee: €60m
Another defender that could be on the move this week is Jules Kounde after Sevilla re-entered negotiations with Chelsea and Barcelona for their star player. Kounde is thought to prefer a move to Barca but the Catalans may not be able to finance a deal after the costly signings of Lewandowski and Raphinha. Chelsea, meanwhile, have resumed talks for Kounde after missing out on De Ligt and they may be the most likely destination for the Frenchman.
Paulo Dybala
From: Juventus
To: Roma
Fee: Free
Paulo Dybala is understood to have a verbal agreement with Roma after his representatives met with the club and Jose Mourinho. The Argentine forward has been linked with several clubs since his contract with Juventus including Inter and Manchester United but he is now en route to Rome to sign his contract and complete a medical.
Armando Broja
From: Chelsea
To: West Ham
Fee: loan/undisclosed
West Ham appear to have made a breakthrough over the signing of Armando Broja after the Chelsea striker left the pre-season squad in LA to fly back to London for talks over a move. Newcastle are also believed to still be interested in Broja but the Hammers are favourites to sign the 20-year-old and are in negoations with Chelsea over a deal. It is unclear whether it would be a loan or permanent transfer but the deal is likely to be resolved soon.
Frenkie De Jong
From: Barcelona
To: Manchester United
Fee: €85m
The saga that never seems to end, Frenkie De Jong's transfer to Manchester United could become a lot clearer this week after the sides agreed terms on a deal, although the move is being held up by the Dutchman's reluctance to leave Barcelona. De Jong is stalling over the move as he is still owed more than €20m in deferred wages by Barca and the 25-year-old is unconvinced by a switch to Old Trafford. This week could be make-or-break for United.
Brian Brobbey
From: RB Leipzig
To: Ajax
Fee: €20m
Ajax are set to complete the permanent signing of striker Brian Brobbey from RB Leipzig. Brobbey scored seven goals in 11 games for the Eredivisie side after spending the second half of the season on loan with them and Ajax are set to pay €20m for the 20-year-old. The Dutchman had been linked with a move to Man Utd but has opted re-sign for Ajax, having only left them for Leipzig a year ago.
