How much are Arsenal offering Bukayo Saka in new contract talks?
Arsenal are continuing their quest to lock Bukayo Saka down to a new contract and are set to offer him a bumper pay rise in order to do so.
The 20-year-old has been a regular in the Gunners’ plans for the best part of two years but finds himself at a vital point in his career.
His contract expires in 2024 and in the months ahead he will have to decide whether he will sign a new deal with Arsenal. If nothing is agreed by this time next year, he will be firmly in the shop window for other clubs, with Manchester City, in particular, interested in the England man.
Arsenal are pre-empting this problem and are set to make Saka one of the biggest earners in their squad, according to a report from the Daily Mail, which suggests that they are ready to more than double his current wage.
Saka is presently thought to be on a contract that is worth around £70,000 a week, which means that negotiations are expected are working at about the £150,000 per week mark.
Saka contract negotiations: The latest
It is reported that Thomas Partey and new signing Gabriel Silva are at the top of Arsenal’s wage bill, picking up wages of £200,000 per week, but it is stated that Saka’s deal with be “close” to that figure.
Furthermore, it is stated that Saka has yet to respond to the offer from the Gunners.
One stumbling block in negotiations that Arsenal face is their lack of Champions League football. It is thought that if they finished in the top four last season, talks would have gone relatively smoothly, but Saka wants to play in the competition for the first time and will have to wait at least a year to do that.
The longer negotiations drag out in this case, the more important it is that Arsenal finish in the top four of the Premier League.
