Man Utd and Chelsea to battle European giants for Pavard
Manchester United are targeting Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard for a potential summer transfer, but they face stiff competition from a number of clubs across Europe, as CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs writes for FootballTransfers.
This is one to watch. Manchester United definitely do need a right-back to come in. Chelsea are also considering Benjamin Pavard as well.
What’s the challenge with Manchester United with all these transfers they’re going for? As soon as you get a club with elevated European competition like Chelsea, it becomes a real difficult for Man Utd to get a deal over the line.
I think that scared Man Utd fans with De Jong when Chelsea emerged, even though it’s not amounted to anything They suddenly get this realisation of where they are as a football club as opposed to where they were historically. That’s where Ten Hag either needs to use his sway as a manager and sell the new era and the strategy, otherwise Manchester United are going to lose out.
Atletico Madrid are also interested in the player as well. And Juventus have expressed an interest, too.
There’s going to be heavy, heavy competition for Benjamin Pavard but Manchester United are certainly one of the clubs who have enquired.
Pavard deal tough to negotiate
Pavard, let’s not forget, was heavily involved last season. He played 36 games in all competitions. But we know that with the arrival of Noussair Mazraoui and also Matthijs de Ligt, it’s suddenly going to be problematic for him to be as integral at Bayern Munich.
So Manchester United, Chelsea, Atleti and, to some extent, Juventus remain interested and are looking to take advantage of the fact Bayern might offload him.
Manchester United will look to get that right-back as a, I want to say secondary target to the midfield area, but it could be a third priority if Ronaldo leaves. Then the striker situation bumps up high.
They’re in the mix here but Bayern are going to be tough to negotiate with on this one because of the volume of suitors. Pavard’s arrival at Man Utd is not a given or, at this point, advanced, at least not in a club-to-club sense.
