Manchester United and Chelsea are thought to be among the sides considering a move for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

The 21-year-old has also been followed by the likes of Barcelona and Newcastle due to his composure on the ball as a left-footer as well as his aerial ability.

However, Monaco are not willing to sell Badiashile for less than €50 million (£42m) as the Frenchman is a regular in the side, having already made more than 100 appearances for the club.

Chelsea may have the strongest interest in Badiashile as they look to move onto other defensive targets following the failure to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, who has opted to join Barcelona.

Is Badiashile on his way to the Premier League?

No secret has been made of Chelsea’s desire to sign another defender, particularly a left-sided one, having already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

The Blues have been frustrated in their pursuit of a defender and PSG’s Presnel Kimpembe is also thought to have turned down a move while Leicester’s Wesley Fofana is considered too expensive at £70m.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been Thomas Tuchel’s only recruit in defence and the Chelsea boss is keen on adding at least one more, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso and Levi Colwill all potentially departing.

Azpilicueta and Alonso are being chased by Barcelona while Colwill, who spent last season on loan at Huddersfield, is thought to be hoping to leave in search of first team football.

United, meanwhile, have already brought in left-footed defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax but Badiashile is still being considered as the club may look to sell the likes of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly.

The Red Devils could still look to strengthen their defence after having their worst defensive season ever in the Premier League, conceding 57 times.

Having already sold midfielder Aurielien Tchouameni to Real Madrid this summer for €80m, Monaco are under no pressure to cash in on another key talent.

Badiashile has captained France at Under-21 level and made 24 appearances as Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season, qualifying for the Champions League.
