Timo Werner: Two reasons Chelsea striker is ‘annoyed’ with Tuchel
Timo Werner has already dropped a hint that he wants to leave Chelsea this summer, and reports that the Germany international could be in line for a transfer have been amplified from sources in the footballer's homeland.
Sky Deutschland states that the subject of a transfer for Werner this summer could become a “hot topic” in the weeks ahead because of the attacker’s strained relationship with manager Thomas Tuchel.
Werner has endured an unhappy first couple of seasons with Chelsea since making a high-profile move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020. Having arrived billed as a key part of the Blues’ attack, he has managed just 10 Premier League goals in 56 outings in the English top flight and has seen his status plunge.
This is one reason why he ahs hinted that departing Stamford Bridge could be a possibility. Speaking on Thursday, he said: “First of all, the most important thing is that I am happy. I am happy when I play and score goals. That’s the fact. That’s what I should take care of and the other things will come.
“It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup.”
Tuchel’s attitude and World Cup worry
Tuchel’s personality, though, is one that is struggling to make Werner feel settled. It is reported that “Werner is annoyed at the fact that Tuchel is too critical and sceptical.”
Furthermore, it is added that “there is no harmony” between the pair.
All this is particularly a problem for the 26-year-old now because he wants to play a role for Germany at World Cup 2022, which begins in Qatar in November. If he is to make Hansi Flick’s squad, he will surely have to play a more significant role than he is currently. This, therefore, is the second element adding to his frustration.
Werner, though, is not yet pushing to leave Chelsea – but if he is not involved in the starting XI in the first weeks of August, all that could change.
