Cristiano Ronaldo is the subject of intense transfer speculation at present, with the Manchester United superstar heavily linked with a switch away from the Old Trafford club.

Rumours have burned over Ronaldo’s future since he failed to show up for the first day of pre-season training under Erik ten Hag, with his absence officially down to family circumstances.

There was no indication at that point of how long he could potentially be missing for, and it is now three weeks that Ronaldo has been away from the squad – missing all of Ten Hag’s tactical work in the process.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, though, has been eager to show fans that he is still training hard in the build up to the season, despite reports linking him with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and, most notably, Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo drops Instagram bomb

He dropped a social post at half-time during Manchester United’s 2-2 friendly draw with Aston Villa in Perth, Australia on Saturday, which drew frustration from some fans, who felt it was timed to detract from what had been an excellent first-half performance from the Red Devils. They were playing fluidly and fully deserved the 2-0 advantage that they had built up.

In the post, though, there was a subtle hint that suggests that Ronaldo is hinting that his future may just be at Old Trafford.

As he works out, he is wearing the new Manchester United shorts from the 2022/23 away kit.

It has been pointed out by many commentators on the social platforms that this would be a strange move from someone who was hell bent on leaving the club.

Nevertheless, the road back to the Manchester United first team promises to be a testing one for Ronaldo. Although Ten Hag has promised that he will be “integrated” into the squad, this may take some weeks as he is starting at a significant deficit to his team-mates.
