Chelsea and PSG waiting for Barca's Lewandowski deal to fail
Barcelona still want to complete a transfer for Robert Lewandowski, but Chelsea and PSG are both circling in case the Catalan side cannot get a deal over the line.
Despite the Camp Nou side raising funds via the sale of assets, which has eased their immediate financial worries, there are still concerns over how they will get big-money deals over the line.
Brazil international winger Raphinha is in the pipeline from Leeds United, but there is greater doubt over whether they can land Lewandowski in what has become an extensive saga.
Although the Poland striker has indicated his desire to leave Bayern Munich, the club are reticent to sell their leading scorer, who still has a year to run on his contract. Even if they are willing to accept a bid of around €50 million from Barca, they reportedly want the payment in one lump sum because they are wary over the Camp Nou side’s financial stability.
This promises to be a significant hurdle for Barcelona to overcome, with the Blaugrana having attempted this trick in the past, when they insisted PSG pay the full world-record transfer fee of €222m for Neymar in advance.
Chelsea and PSG to pounce on any weakness
To make matters worse for the Catalans, Sport Bild reports that they are being put under pressure by two clubs who have more spending power.
Chelsea and PSG are both ready to make moves if Barcelona falter. Both teams are known to be in the market for a new centre-forward, while they have the economic capacity to make a deal happen.
The 33-year-old may have made a move to Barca his leading priority, but it is stated that he would prefer a transfer to Chelsea rather than stay at Bayern Munich, having had a very public war of words with the Allianz Arena outfit over his future.
L’Equipe reports, meanwhile, that PSG will move for Lewandowski when talks with Barcelona break down.
If Barcelona were to land Lewandowski, then, it would be doubly sweet.
