After a difficult start to pre-season at Liverpool, club record signing Darwin Nunez got off the mark for his new club, netting four goals in a huge victory over RB Leipzig.

Nunez had been mocked, ridiculed and laughed at by opposition fans during his opening two games for Liverpool following a succession of misses and moments to forget.

After all, his goal-scoring exploits were what convinced Liverpool to dump €100 million for his services, and he delivered four goals in an emphatic 5-0 win for Jurgen Klopp's side.

A price tag as huge as Nunez's comes with its often insurmountable pressures, which is something that he will have felt during his early days as a Liverpool player.

He's has been branded the 'Uruguayan Andy Carroll', while comparisons to Chelsea forward Timo Werner, who has struggled since arriving in England, have been made. These claims have all stemmed from his early pre-season misses. First, an open training session in which Nunez blazed several shots over the crossbar and looked unnatural with the technical side of the game.

Then came his miss against Man Utd in the first game of Erik ten Hag's reign. Nunez fired a shot over from inside the penalty area, with Tom Heaton on the floor and seemingly an open net in front of him. Just days later, he air-kicked a chance against Crystal Palace before several other moments he'll want to forget happened.

He headed a beautiful Thiago lofted pass back towards his own goal when taking it down on the chest and shooting seemed possible, and he passed the ball straight out of play when attempting a one-touch pass.

However, scoring four goals against Leipzig is not a bad way to respond.

His first Liverpool goal was a well-placed penalty past the outstretched hand of Janis Blaswich in the Leipzig goal, the second was a right-footed finish into the far corner, the third was a left-footed tap-in, and the fourth was a curling effort that was pushed into the corner by the Leipzig 'keeper that should've been saved.
