Liverpool spent £95.7 million (€110.8m) during the 2022 summer transfer window as they attempt to mount another charge on the Premier League and beat Manchester City to the title this time around.

Jurgen Klopp’s side narrowly missed out on top spot in the English top flight last campaign, and have dipped into the transfer market in an attempt to climb back to the top of the Premier League and disrupt Man City's dominance in the division.

The Reds lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, but Mohamed Salah has signed a new three-year deal at the club after concerns he would also leave. Mane, 30, left Liverpool after six years at Anfield in order to join Bayern Munich as Robert Lewandowski's replacement, who joined Barcelona. However, Klopp’s side had already signed Mane's successor before the Senegal international left the club.

An £86m (€100m) fee for the transfer for Darwin Nunez from Benfica was agreed in June, which enabled the sale of Mane to Bavaria. The Uruguay international was linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester United before choosing to join Liverpool this summer. This £86m fee will only be paid if certain add-ons are met, however. The base fee Liverpool paid for Nunez was £67.5m.

With the deal, Nunez, 23, became Liverpool’s club-record signing, eclipsing the fee they paid to Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.

Nunez scored 32 goals in all competitions during the 2021-22 season, including in both legs of Benfica’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Liverpool. He put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Anfield, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay have also joined the club this summer, and signal Liverpool's approach to developing talented young players. The former was close to joining from Fulham in January, but a move was delayed until the summer.

Carvalho has been signed for £5.3m (€6.1m) after scoring 10 league goals and assisting eight for Fulham in the Championship last season. Like Nunez, Carvalho also agreed to a five-year contract and impressed in pre-season.

On the other hand, teenager Ramsay has joined for £4.4m (€5m) from Scottish side Aberdeen, yet again on a five-year deal. He is expected to provide back-up cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold following Neco Williams' departure to Nottingham Forest.

There was one late piece of business conducted by Jurgen Klopp's men as a reaction to an injury crisis in midfield. Liverpool swooped to secure Arthur Melo from Juventus, with the former Barcelona star joining on a loan that cost the Reds £4m to conclude. It also has a purchase option attached should they wish to make it permanent next summer.
