Manchester United are interested in Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, and a deal with the Dutch champions is almost complete.

The 24-year-old has impressed in recent times, and was named Ajax’s Player of the Season for the 2021-22 campaign.

He’s believed to be keen on a reunion with Erik ten Hag, having played under him for the last three seasons since moving from Argentina.

Now, though, Man Utd are working on a deal for Martinez, with Ajax demanding a fee that could rise to €55 million with add-ons.

Should he make the move to Old Trafford, it will open up a variety of options for Ten Hag, as he gets to grips with his new team.

The Red Devils boss already has captain Harry Maguire, World Cup winner Raphael Varane and Sweden international Victor Lindelof at his disposal.

As a result, a number of the fringe players will need to leave the club in order to accommodate for the new signing.

The imminent arrival of Martinez could mean the end of Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones' Manchester United careers.

Bailly has impressed on numerous occasions in a United shirt, but continuous injury problems have robbed him of regular playing time at Old Trafford.

Now could be the time for the Ivorian to leave for pastures new, and he will be hoping that a change of scenery puts an end to his physical setbacks.

Axel Tuanzebe once excelled in a Champions League knockout tie against Paris Saint-Germain under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, he has shown little else in a United shirt, and spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and Napoli, starting six league games during both teams combined.

As for Phil Jones, who has now been at Old Trafford for a decade now, he is going to be difficult to move due to his wages.

There's no doubt that Jones has no use to United anymore, though, and it would be good to see the 30-year-old play regularly again elsewhere.
