Gabriel Jesus has made an explosive start to his Arsenal career, scoring just 90 seconds after coming on against 2.Bundesliga side Nurnberg in a friendly clash that Mikel Arteta's side came from behind to win 5-3 in thrilling style.

The Brazil international joined the Gunners for a fee of around £45 million from Manchester City in the summer with the expectation that he will provide a cutting edge to the attack that was previously missing

Although Jesus has arrived at the Emirates with something to prove in terms of his efficiency in front of goal, he has certainly made an explosive start to his life with his new club. Arsenal trailed 2-0 at the break after an abject first half performance, but the arrival of the Brazilian was a catalyst that shook them out of their pre-season stupor.

Indeed, he scored immediately after arriving off the bench.

Jesus nets brilliant debut goal for Arsenal

It was a goal that he created himself, picking up on a miscontrol from a Nurnberg defender midway inside the home side’s half. He carried the ball out to the right flank in order to allow support to arrive, before playing a slick give-and-go. From a seemingly impossible angle he lifted the ball into the roof of the net.

Shortly after Jesus notched Arsenal’s first, Mohamed Elneny, who signed a new contract with the club in the summer banged in a stunning second.

Meanwhile, Jesus was also to the fore as the Premier League side completed their turnaround. Excellent link-up play between the new striker, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli resulted in an own goal.

A fourth followed when Nketiah, who had been expected to be released in the summer until a fine late-season run, fired a shot against the bar before a defender clumsily put the ball into his own goal.

After Nurnberg got one back, Gabriel Jesus completed a memorable debut by getting in front of his marker to poke home a cross from Gabriel Martinelli to seal a 5-3 victory.

In another point of interest from the game, Kieran Tierney played the first 30 minutes before being withdrawn. His warm down at the half-time interval suggests it was a planned decision.

Nevertheless, Gabriel Jesus’ fine introduction to Arsenal colours will be the main talking point after this friendly.
