Why Fofana and Dumfries will cost Chelsea a STAGGERING €140m
Chelsea will have to shell out a staggering €140 million if they are to sign Wesley Fofana and Denzel Dumfries.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on Sunday that Chelsea are in negotiations for both Leicester centre back Fofana and Inter right wing-back Dumfries.
PREMIER LEAGUE DONE DEALS THIS SUMMER
But any deal for Fofana will be incredibly difficult as Leicester want to keep the French defender.
Ornstein reports that the Foxes value Fofana between €95-101m and have no intention of selling.
Thus Chelsea will have to bid on the high side of that valuation if they are to have any chance of signing the 21-year-old.
Chelsea are said to also be prepared to offer players in exchange to bring the price down.
Inter want to sell Dumfries
As for Dumfries, Ornstein also reports that Chelsea are in negotiations for the Inter star.
Unlike Fofana, Dumfries is available for sale. It has been widely quoted in the Italian media all summer that Inter want €40m for the Dutchman.
Inter need to generate a profit of €60m when all their transfer work is done at the end of the summer market, so they must sell a first-team player.
Initially, the plan was to sell Milan Skriniar for €70m to PSG and replace him with Bremer.
But when Bremer joined Juventus instead, Inter have turned their attentions to sacrificing Dumfries instead.
It will be an incredibly expensive operation for Chelsea if they are to sign both players, with a double deal potentially costing around €140m.
Chelsea have already spent approaching €100m this summer on Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly and could now break the €200m mark with these two deals if they go through.
Alternatives to Fofana at centre back, according to Ornstein, are Jonathan Tah, Axel Disasi and Nikola Milenkovic.
