Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona’s Sergino Dest, as evident by the Blaugrana’s squad list for their opening La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano.

Barcelona have been open to selling the player, along with many others, as they look to trim their squad and cut down their wage bill to help their financial situation.

Dest, along with others like Martin Braithwaite and Samuel Umtiti have been up for sale and are left out of the squad for the first match of the season.

Others such as Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong are also up for sale, but are in the squad, as negotiations are ongoing with other clubs over their transfers.

Dest struggled to impress at Barcelona

Dest has been at Barcelona since 2020 but hasn’t been able to show his best form, with others such as Dani Alves and Sergi Roberto often taking up his place in the team.

He was brought in under Ronald Koeman and got sufficient game time, but it hasn’t been the same since Xavi’s arrival, as the former midfielder has preferred other options.

It’s reported in Spain that Xavi has told Dest he is not part of his plans and he should accept a transfer if he wants to get more game time ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

Barcelona have also told the American that they will be looking for other options in the market, having previously been interested in Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta, before the Spaniard extended his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United are one of the clubs interested as they’re in the market for a right-back, with their current options not meeting the standards required.

Diogo Dalot hasn’t been performing at his best, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks close to leaving on loan and Ethan Laird is set for a temporary move to Queens Park Rangers.

Dest enjoyed his best performances under Erik ten Hag when the pair were together at Ajax, and there’s a feeling that reuniting with the Dutchman would help his career.
