Sesko has signed a contract with Leipzig until 2028, although he will remain with Salzburg for the 2022-23 season.

"I’m very happy to be able to make the move to RB Leipzig in 2023 and that the transfer is now confirmed," Sesko said.

"RB Leipzig are one of the best clubs in Germany and are establishing themselves as one of the best in Europe year on year. A success story has been written here in just a few years and I want to be a part of it in the future.

"The club’s philosophy of placing trust in young players and playing attractive, attacking football is a perfect fit for me.

"The city, the stadium and the whole infrastructure at RB Leipzig, as well as the many good discussions with the club, convinced me that this move is absolutely the right decision. My focus is now on the season with Salzburg, that I want to use to continue developing and be as successful as possible."

Sesko had emerged as one of Man Utd’s most likely striker signings before the end of the transfer window.

It has recently been confirmed that Manchester United met with Sesko’s representatives over a possible move for the player.

It was also reported that Red Bull Salzburg wanted a fee of around €50 million for the 19-year-old, and that put off interest from Manchester United.

Nevertheless, any hope Man Utd had of signing Sesko is over.

Sesko joined Salzburg in 2019 from Slovenian club Domzale, and has been growing since, playing for their feeder team, FC Liefering in the second division.

He scored 21 goals in 29 appearances for Liefering in the second division in the 2020-21 season, and has been with the Salzburg seniors since, playing alongside Karim Adeyemi after Patson Daka’s departure.

Salzburg have a great record of working with attacking players having developed the likes of Sadio Mane, Erling Haaland, Adeyemi and Daka in recent times.

It’s believed that Sesko can be the next from their incredible production line, and he has the numbers to back up his success, having netted 13 goals in seven matches at the back end of last season.

He has two goals in four games this season so far.
