The incredible reason Marc Cucurella has long hair
Chelsea have signed one of the most distinctive players in the Premier League this summer by adding Marc Cucurella to their ranks from Brighton.
Former Barcelona youth Cucurella was signed for Thomas Tuchel’s side after they beat off Manchester City for the 24-year-old, who has often played as left-back but is tipped to play in the centre of defence for Chelsea.
The Blues have invested heavily in the player, too. With a £62 million transfer fee having been agreed, he has become one of their most expensive players ever.
There is no missing him on the field due to his distinctive haircut, which shows off his long, curly locks. It is a style reminiscent of former Blues defender David Luiz and makes him unmissable on the field.
Indeed, that is one of the key reasons why he allowed his hair to grow in the first place.
Cucurella’s career has been heavily influenced by his mother, Patricia, but equally his haircut has also been partially dictated by his mum. When he was a younger player, it is said that she wanted an easier way to be able to pick out her son during matches and that is a key reason his haircut has become so distinctive.
The story behind Marc Cucurella's long hair. It's not because he wanted to be like Puyol, even if he was one of his idols. It's because his mother Patricia asked him to keep his hair long so she could spot him better during his youth football matches. pic.twitter.com/czUOprRy8z

Puyol comparisons
There have been rumours that Cucurella’s hair had been allowed to become fuzzy in deference to one of his idols, Barcelona defender Carles Puyol. While the Catalan centre-back is indeed a player who was respected by Cucurella, that is not thought to be the reason behind the defender’s haircut.
Nevertheless, there are strong resemblances between the playing styles of Cucurella and Puyol, which could become more evident over the course of his Chelsea career if he does indeed become primarily used as a left-sided centre-back.
One thing is for sure, though, with his long hair, there will be no missing Cucurella on the field when he finally makes his Stamford Bridge debut for Chelsea.
