Chelsea ‘obsessed’ with signing Wesley Fofana
Chelsea are 'obsessed' with signing Wesley Fofana and could return with a third bid of nearly £80 million for the Leicester defender, writes CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.
Chelsea will likely be the busiest club in Europe between now and when the window shuts and they see Fofana as their number one target because of the profile, the completeness of the defender that he is and the potential that he can become.
That might mean that we see them pay a world record fee for a defender, and we all know that Leicester love to charge world record fees after also selling Harry Maguire to Manchester United for similar kind of money that they will be asking for Fofana.
Chelsea have had two bids rejected and they are highly likely to table something in the high £70 million mark or beyond to test Leicester's resolve.
Chelsea are almost obsessed with signing Fofana so, if a third bid is rejected, it wouldn't be unthinkable that a fourth and fifth bid might follow.
But of course, Chelsea have to be careful because they can't be seen as a club that will just keep bidding and will keep adding another 10 million.
That's the finesse of the window that, after two rejected bids, Chelsea have to be a bit more cautious to make sure Leicester don't see them as the type of football club that are just gonna keep going up and up.
Chelsea ready to test Leicester's resolve
I think that Chelsea are quite prepared to meet the valuation and then it's all down to the Leicester's board, and I think that they do a sale reluctantly for the right price.
Part of that is because Fofana would really like to join Chelsea. So Chelsea's tactic is just to keep bidding and see what happens. I think we'll see more meaningful talks this week between the clubs.

It's a tough negotiation, it's a big price, but all Chelsea really have to do is make a bid and then see whether the Leicester's resolve is tested or not.
If it is, they'll get the player and if it isn't, Chelsea will realise that pretty much whatever they bid won't result in a deal, and it will be quite simple.
