Chelsea and Manchester United are both set to be active in what promises to be an exciting closing week of the 2022 summer transfer window.

Both clubs have done some impressive deals over the summer, but respective managers Thomas Tuchel and Erik ten Hag are eager to further strengthen their squads.

And the paths of the two clubs could cross in the weeks ahead, with Man Utd still monitoring the Blues’ Christian Pulisic, while both clubs are being attracted towards a move for Brentford hitman Ivan Toney as they seek to bolster their attacking ranks.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs explains the state of play of both deals as he writes for FootballTransfers.

Pulisic still on Man Utd’s radar

Christian Pulisic isn’t necessarily a surprise move because he’s increasingly unhappy at Chelsea and needs to play in a World Cup year, but I think it’s more likely to be a surprise destination.

I was told at the beginning of the window that he would prefer a move to Serie A and Juventus, but they’ve not made a move yet. It’s one to watch. He would be open to a move to Serie A and needs game time with the World Cup coming.

He’s still on Manchester United’s radar to some extent but Chelsea haven’t been too keen to engage because they don’t want to loan him out to a direct domestic rival, which again opens the door to a Serie A club.

Toney an increasing possibility

Ivan Toney could be a surprise move. There’s a growing feeling that Manchester United and Chelsea could look at him if they don’t get other targets.

He’s had a brilliant start to the season, but it would be a surprise if Brentford were prepared to sell at this stage so late in the window. It’s one to keep an eye on.
