Conor Gallagher’s short-term future is up in the air again, as Crystal Palace are monitoring his situation in the hope of bringing him back to the club on another loan deal.

The midfielder had a successful spell on loan at Selhurst Park, scorning eight goals and providing five assists in 39 appearances, and managed to breakthrough Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

He was also named Crystal Palace’s Player of the Season, and there has been interest from the club in another loan spell, despite Chelsea previously suggesting he was staying at Stamford Bridge.

After returning from his loan spell, manager Thomas Tuchel made it clear to Gallagher that he was part of his plans in the 2022-23 season, and even gave him time on the pitch against Everton.

That was his senior debut for the club, having previously played in friendlies and on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States last month.

Gallagher wants World Cup berth

The 22-year-old is eager to play on the pitch, and is hoping to keep his place in the England squad ahead of the World Cup selection later this year.

Chelsea have a host of midfield options including Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, while they are reportedly interested in signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona before the end of the window.

The Blues have entered the race for De Jong having seen the opportunity open following Barcelona’s keen desire to sell and Manchester United’s interest waning.

That would open the door for Gallagher to get another loan spell and impress elsewhere, and there wouldn’t be a shortage of suitors for him.

Along with Crystal Palace, it’s also reported that West Ham United are interested in taking Gallagher on loan, with David Moyes an admirer of the player.

Should Chelsea add another midfielder to the squad in time, it looks Gallagher will be available on loan once again and he’ll get a temporary move before the end of the transfer window.
