THREE Chelsea players being targeted by Newcastle
Newcastle were expected to have a mega transfer window, but have only signed three players all summer, and are targeting a Chelsea trio to end the window.
The Magpies have completed deals for Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett, but want more to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad as the season gets into gear.
It’s been reported that Amanda Staveley, the club director, was spotted at Stamford Bridge for the Blues game against Tottenham, in the hope of securing transfers before the end of the window.
The club have always made it clear they’ll have a sustained approach in the transfer market and wouldn’t spend money just because they have it.
Newcastle target three academy stars
The three players Newcastle have targeted are midfielder Conor Gallagher, winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and forward Armando Broja, all of whom have been linked to other clubs over the summer.
Gallagher has been the subject of many rumours over the summer, with Crystal Palace interested in bringing him back to Selhurst Park on loan and West Ham also showing interest.
Thomas Tuchel has reportedly told the player that he’s keen on keeping him at Stamford Bridge, and has given him playing time for the Blues in the Premier League, but only off the bench.
Tuchel: “We are happy with Conor Gallagher. He keeps on fighting - I think he has everything to become a very important player at Chelsea”. 🔵 #CFC
“Hudson-Odoi, same. He has a huge potential - at the moment, he is our player and he needs to fight, fight, fight”. pic.twitter.com/13zRKkFI2p— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 13, 2022
Hudson-Odoi was deemed as one of the Chelsea academy’s biggest stars not too long ago, but his development hasn’t gone to plan, and he is available for a move.
Clubs across England and Germany, including Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City, have been linked with a move, but nothing has materialized.
Broja, meanwhile, spent the last season on loan at Southampton, and is open to moving elsewhere on loan, but once again, no firm offer has come up.
Like Gallagher, he too has got minutes in the Premier League but has never started a game for the Blues this season, and he’ll be hoping to change that.
Newcastle hope to make a series of signings between now and the end of August, and they would be smart to get in these three players as they’d significantly be improving their squad.
