Paris Saint-Germain are keeping a close eye on Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante's contract situation.

Kante has just one year remaining on his contract, and it is unknown whether the Blues are going to offer him an extension.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is very keen for the Frenchman to stay, but has admitted that his age, injury history and wages demands will be important factors.

PSG are monitoring this situation, according to The Times, which could result in a transfer offer in this window or the next.

Alternatively, the Ligue 1 side could wait to take him on a free next summer.

Why Chelsea should sell N'golo Kante

N'Golo Kante has been one of Chelsea's greatest ever signings, there's no doubt about that.

Signed for £32 million from title winners Leicester City back in 2016, Kante immediately hit the ground running at Chelsea, winning the Premier League for a second consecutive season, while also winning the PFA Player of the Year, in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Playing alongside Nemanja Matic under Antonio Conte, the Frenchman was imperious in central midfield, with his energy enabling the Blues to regain possession so frequently, which allowed the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro the time on the ball needed to show their quality.

A consistent performer, Kante did suffer a slight drop off in performance under Frank Lampard's management, however, and his status as one of the Premier League's best midfielders came into question.

But, Thomas Tuchel's arrival at Chelsea saw Kante back to his best, winning Man of the Match awards in the Champions League semi-final and final.

But the Frenchman put in several lacklustre performances in the 2021-22 Premier League season, in which Chelsea finished 3rd.

Kante is now 31 years old, and his body is clearly ageing. While he could always be relied upon for availability, despite his high-energy style of play, Kante is now seemingly always picking up injuries that see him miss a month or so at a time.

And his summer is the final chance for Chelsea to receive a transfer fee for the 2018 World Cup winner, as his contract is up in less than a year's time.

Whether PSG will be Kante's next port of call is unknown, but one thing's for certain - his time at Chelsea doesn't look like it'll last much longer.
