Christensen drops Chelsea return hint amid Barcelona doubts
Ex-Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen dropped an intriguing hint over his future amid strong doubts he will be able to stay at new club Barcelona.
The Denmark international left Stamford Bridge on a free transfer at the start of the summer window but remains on good terms with the Blues management.
And at Camp Nou he has been plunged into uncertainty just days away from the start of the La Liga season.
According to an ESPN report, neither Christensen nor fellow free transfer arrival Franck Kessie have been registered for the new campaign due to Barca's troubles with the league salary cap.
If the pair are not cleared, they may be released without playing a single competitive game for the club - it is believed that their contracts contain such a clause which would allow for termination in such cases.
In that context, Christensen's recent social media activity is very interesting indeed.
Still a Blue on Instagram
The centre-back's Instagram account features a profile picture of him in a Chelsea shirt, while there is no mention of the move to Barcelona anywhere.
A previous post alluding to his arrival at Camp Nou appears to have been deleted, only fuelling speculation that barely a month after officially cutting ties with Chelsea Christensen could make a sensational return.
Barca, however, are not concerned about this late rush to register their players, and believe any issues with the salary cap will be resolved once La Liga takes into account the exercising of a fourth economic lever set to inject further funds into the club.
Currently seven players are ineligible to take the field for Saturday's league opener against Rayo: Christensen, Kessie and fellow new signings Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde; as well as Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto, who are awaiting clearance following contract renewals.
