Cody Gakpo would be willing to join Manchester United should the English club make a concrete offer for him to PSV in the coming days, ahead of transfer deadline day.

Erik ten Hag has been an admirer of Gakpo’s talents having seen first-hand how can be as he was named Dutch Footballer of the Year last season.

There has been a hold-up to a potential deal as PSV are waiting to see the outcome of their Champions League qualification play-off against Rangers this week.

Should they win that tie, they will play in the group stages of the Champions League and could be more inclined to keep Gakpo if that’s the case.

Gakpo awaiting Man Utd move

In recent days, there have been rumours over what kind of fee PSV would demand for their star player, but it has become evident that it will be close to €50 million, according to reports in the Netherlands.

Manchester United have also been targeting Antony, who is Erik ten Hag’s top target for the attacking role, but Ajax are demanding too big a fee, having rejected €80 million last week.

Ten Hag has worked with Antony when the pair were at Ajax, and the Brazilian is keen to reunite, having shared a good relationship when the two were at the Amsterdam club.

Antony missed training sessions and last week’s Eredivisie game against Sparta Rotterdam as coach Alfred Schreuder explained Antony wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play.

PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has said he wishes to keep Gakpo at the club beyond deadline day: “There are lot of rumours since long time, it’s clear we’d love to keep Gakpo here at PSV.”

Despite the rumours, he also praised his player’s behaviour and handling of the situation: “He never changed his attitude in training after the rumours, that’s so good for a young player.”

There was a belief that United would go for both Gakpo and Antony this summer, but as time goes on, it will be either one, depending on what suits their financial situation.
