Borussia Dortmund are Ronaldo’s ‘last chance’ of Man Utd exit
Cristiano Ronaldo is quickly running out of options to leave Manchester United this summer, but Borussia Dortmund could provide the exit door that the Portuguese is looking for, according to a report from CBS Sports.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants to depart Old Trafford to a team that is capable of competing at the top of the European game but is finding his path blocked by obstacles at every turn.
Man Utd, meanwhile, are insistent that they want to keep Ronaldo on their books, with the 37-year-old having carried the team last year. Given the player’s failure to show for much of pre-season training, though, there is a suggestion that if they receive a concrete offer, they may be tempted to reassess that stance.
Cristiano Ronaldo to Dortmund?
Dortmund, meanwhile, have come into focus as a potential destination for the Portugal international star.
Over the course of the summer, they have seen Erling Haaland depart the club to Manchester City, while his replacement Sebastien Haller faces a long period on the sidelines because of illness.
CBS reports that the club is presently holding internal discussions to consider the value of a move for Ronaldo. It appears that agent Jorge Mendes is encouraging the club to look upon a deal favourably.
Meanwhile, it is a move that the veteran forward is open to. They are playing Champions League this season, while the opportunity of turning out in the Bundesliga would present him the unique opportunity to win titles in all of Europe’s leading four leagues.
Furthermore, CBS says that sources close to Ronaldo see this as the player’s ‘last chance’ to leave Manchester United this summer, with possible deals with Sporting CP and Atletico Madrid having hit the buffers in recent hours.
Ronaldo, for his part, appreciates the difficulties of brokering a transfer at this late stage in the window and remains utterly professional at Man Utd.
