The best FPL midfielders for 2022-23
The 2022-23 version of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) provides great value for midfielders, with some of the best players in the game classed in this position group.
For example, Mohamed Salah and Heung-Min Son are both named as midfielders, despite ending last season as the Premier League’s joint top goalscorers. As a result, they receive one more point per goal than if they were classed as a forward, and they also earn one point per clean sheet, which is valuable given how good Liverpool and Tottenham are defensively.
As a result, they are both priced highly. Salah is the most expensive player in the game at £13m, but he scored the most points last season (265) for the first time since 2018/19. He managed 10 double digit hauls throughout the season, and hence was arguably the most valuable player to own. Therefore, he is the best FPL midfielder for 2022-23.
Son has received a price boost thanks to his form last season, and is now priced at £12m. That is the same as Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne.
De Bruyne scored 15 goals last season, while Salah and Son both scored 23. The Belgian also racked up the most bonus points of any midfielder last year (32), while Salah was second with 29 and Son was third with 27.
Bukayo Saka is a slightly cheaper option, but also offers great value. The Englishman topped the points-scoring charts for Arsenal last season, and with the addition of Gabriel Jesus, he could rack up even more assists.
An even cheaper alternative is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto. The Portuguese international spent most of last campaign on the sidelines, but at £5.5m he is a great option. He would enable money to be spent on more expensive stars, while providing plenty of attacking returns.
In 2020/21, Neto’s last injury-free season, he topped Wolves' goal-scoring and assist charts, registering 13 attacking returns.
