How much are Chelsea asking Barcelona for Azpilicueta?
Barcelona are in negotiations to sign Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea, and the Blues have dropped their asking price for the player.
That is according to Relevo, who report that Chelsea have dropped their asking price from €15 million to €10m in an attempt to speed up the deal.
Azpilicueta has already agreed personal terms with the Blaugrana on a contract worth €13m per year and wishes to make the move.
This means that for the transfer to be completed a transfer fee needs to be agreed between Chelsea and Barcelona.
How much do Chelsea want for Azpilicueta?
Chelsea are understood to be requesting €10m in order to sell Azpilicueta, just slightly more than what they paid Marseille for the defender in 2012.
It was reported in the Evening Standard last month that Barcelona only valued Azpilicueta at €3m but there is confidence that this is a deal that will be done before the end of the transfer window.
Azpilicueta has made it clear he wants to join Barcelona but will not put up a fuss out of respect for the Blues.
The 32-year-old’s contract expires in 2023 and Barcelona want him to be their starting right-back this coming campaign.
Barcelona are revolutionising their defence this summer. They have already snapped up Andreas Christensen on a free transfer from Chelsea as well as Jules Kounde from Sevilla, beating the Blues to the latter. They are also interested in Marcos Alonso from Chelsea and could move for him once they complete the deal for Azpilicueta.
The relationship between Chelsea and Barcelona is not perfect after the Catalans also hijacked the Premier League team’s negotiations with Raphinha, who is now also at Camp Nou.
Azpilicueta can also play at centre-back and is capable of playing in both a back-four or back-three, or even as a wing-back.
He has made 476 appearances for Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League.
