Kevin Trapp rejects Manchester United offer
Kevin Trapp has confirmed he has rejected the opportunity to sign for Manchester United and will stay at Eintracht Frankfurt for the upcoming season.
Erik ten Hag was looking to sign another goalkeeper to compete with David de Gea as he’s looking for someone who can play with his feet more and command the area.
Trapp was one of the targets Manchester United had and even began discussions with Trapp’s representatives and his club, but will now have to look elsewhere.
The German confirmed in an Instagram post that he is set to stay with the Bundesliga club and that he’ll be fighting to turn their fortunes around this season.
“In the past few days, there have been many reports about Manchester United's interest. It is true that there is a written offer. Manchester United is a global club.
“The fact that I am considering such an offer and thinking about it is something I hope everyone can understand.
“Yesterday I told the officials of both clubs that I have decided in favour of Eintracht. I have experienced incredible things here with Eintracht and we have made history together.
“The start of the season was bumpy, but I have absolute confidence in us.”
Manchester United were eager to make a quick move for the player having identified a list of targets soon after the 4-0 defeat to Brentford 12 days ago where De Gea struggled.
Trapp, along with Yann Sommer, were the two Bundesliga goalkeepers the Red Devils targeted, while they are also interested in a loan deal for Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka.
Eintracht Frankfurt reportedly wanted €25 million for their player, who helped massively on their way to winning the Europa League and helping them qualify for the Champions League.
Manchester United now have a week to find another goalkeeper if they wish to provide competition to De Gea for the rest of the season.
