Revealed: Liverpool's shock midfield target
Liverpool have an injury crisis in midfield and are considering the signing of another midfielder before the close of the transfer window later this week.
The Reds lost Thiago earlier this month, and have played most matches with an ageing core of James Milner and Jordan Henderson, as well as some youngsters in Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho.
This has contributed to their rather sluggish start to the season as they went winless after their first three matches, before trouncing Bournemouth 9-0 over the weekend to kickstart their campaign.
It felt as though they were done with their transfer business having brought in Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Carvalho, but there may be some late additions.
In addition to Thiago, others such as Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are also out injured, and they’ve turned their attentions to a Sheffield United midfielder.
Liverpool looking at Sander Berge
Sander Berge has long been of interest to several Premier League clubs, having joined Sheffield United in January 2020 and playing in both the top-flight as well as the Championship.
Liverpool have previously been linked to the player, before he joined the Blades and even once after they were relegated from the Premier League in 2021.
It’s believed that Liverpool can get Berge by paying out his buy-out clause, worth £35 million, and there is some optimism that the Reds can get the Norwegian before the transfer deadline.

Liverpool have been linked to other players to fill up the midfield void, such as Wolverhampton Wanders’ Ruben Neves, but manager Jurgen Klopp has been coy on speculation.
“I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong,” the German manager said.
He continued: “That’s the situation. There is really nothing more to say about it. We are looking for it, and if it is the right player we need him and if it is not the right player we don’t need him.”
