Bruno Fernandes is remaining tight-lipped on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo but has admitted he will be happy for his teammate even if he leaves Manchester United.

Ronaldo has strongly been linked with an Old Trafford exit after informing the club of his desire to leave for Champions League football, but no significant offers have been forthcoming so far.

Fernandes revealed he may know 'a thing or two' but he wouldn't be drawn into speculating on Ronaldo's future and will allow the 37-year-old to speak for himself when he is ready.

"There is a lot of speculation, but there is no one better than Cristiano to talk about it," Fernandes told Eleven Sports. "I may know a thing or two, but I won’t be the one to say it.

"For now he is a United player, I don’t know about his future, if he will leave or if he will not leave. As he said, he will speak soon and they will have time to hear his words and what he has to say.

"He can continue at a high level and give us a lot of goals but it's his decision. We have to respect what he wants to do, whatever he wants to do.

"If he's going to stay, we'll be happy about it, if he's going to leave because he thinks it's best for him, I'll be personally happy for him."

Will Ronaldo leave United?

United's stance throughout the summer has been that Ronaldo is not for sale, however they were believed to have been open to considering offers after their disastrous start to the season.

The club were not happy with Ronaldo's attitude around the training ground and there was some belief that selling their top scorer from last season could lift the dressing room.

Ronaldo was an 86th minute substitute during United's 2-1 win over Liverpool and some reports have suggested that the forward may have a change of heart following the club's signing of Casemiro.

The Brazilian has agreed to join United in a £70 million move and Ronaldo is thought to be impressed by the arrival of his former Real Madrid teammate.

With seemingly no obvious suitors and United seeking to further strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, it is looking increasingly likely that Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford.

However, the club could still sanction an exit if a suitable replacement is found, with United still negotiating to sign winger Antony from Ajax.
